Kerry Washington's friend Diahann Carroll wasn't surprised when Kerry Washington secretly got married and had a baby because it's something she's always dreamed of.

The 'Scandal' actress and her husband Nnmadi Asomugha welcomed daughter Isabelle Amarachi - their first child together - into the world seven weeks ago, and her friend Diahann Carroll, 78, admits she wasn't surprised when her pal announced her pregnancy.

Speaking to E! News, Diahann said: ''She wants it. She wants this baby and her husband wants the baby, so the baby is coming into an absolutely perfect situation.

You could smell that she wanted this whole life-the baby, the husband, the in-laws [and] the house.'' Diahann, who has been married four times, jokingly added: ''There's only a short period when you want all that.''

The 37-year-old actress, who secretly tied the knot last June, didn't announce her baby's arrival until a few weeks after her birth but admitted she felt ''really blessed'' to be a mother.

Kerry, who rarely comments on her personal life, said: ''So tricky because you know I don't talk about this stuff. But I will say I feel really, really blessed.

I just feel really blessed that I'm kind of living extraordinary dreams come true in my work life and in my personal life.''
