Idols SA: Musa, Sonke and Bunny impress judges

Musa Sukwene, Sonke Mazibuko and Bunny Majaja came out as clear favourites during this weekend’s Idols SA top 9 performance show.

Sunday’s show saw the remaining top 9 contestants taking on hits from their musical idols under the mentorship of Liquideep’s Ziyon.

Although judges were impressed with most of the night’s performances, it was the 3 who managed to shine above the rest.

Musa took on Ringo Madlingozi’s ‘Ndiyagodola’ with a performance that left the audience begging for more and had the judges complementing him on his excellent song choice.

Gareth Cliff found his performance to be authentic, adding that the song was just right for him.

Randall also commended Musa’s clever thinking and ‘ability to go the extra mile’ with each performance.

Another contestant who chose to go local was Makhosonke Mazibuko who effortlessly sang Zonke’s hit single ‘Jikizinto’.

Gareth felt that Sonke had handled the song very well, while Unathi found the performance very exciting.

Randall was very impressed by Sonke’s level of growth through the competition and felt that he was ‘the one to beat’ amongst the male competitors.

Bunny Majaja closed the show off with a spectacular rendition of Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’ which Gareth labelled as the ‘most enjoyable performance to watch’, adding that the Florida Glen singer was ‘like a meal that hits the spot when you are hungry’.

Unathi said that Bunny possessed the ‘mark of a true artist’ while Randall simply chose to sing a verse from Tina Turner’s ‘What's Love Got to Do With It’ to show his approval.

Other memorable moments of the night were Zoe’s take on Rihanna’s ‘Love the way you lie’ and judge Unathi’s bizarre tearful reaction to Benjamin Tainton’s performance of Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’.

Lady favourite Brenden sang Anthony Hamilton’s ‘Her heart’ whilst Christine took on Pinks ‘Try’.

Innocent chose Coldplay’s ‘Paradise’ and Christalene sang Kelly Clarkson’s ‘stronger’.

Besides Musa Sukwene, Sonke Mazibuko and Bunny Majaja's performance, it seems like the Idols contestants have a long way to go to for fans to see a tight competition.

We wait to see what the next week offers us..
