Macufe fest ends on a high note

According to organisers, about 160,000 people attended the various shows

AS HAS become usual, tons of entertainment were on offer for music and party lovers during the Mangaung Cultural Festival in Bloemfontein.

Running for 10 days from October 5, various components of this perennially popular extravaganza - now in its 15th year - were held at different venues in the city, and these included comedy shows, music concerts and sports events.

The main music concert on Saturday attracted more than 17,000 fans. According to organisers, about 160,000 people attended the various shows over the past week

American soul singer Randy Crawford - who featured jazz maestro Joe Sample - rendered a soft, sensual and soulful performance.

House music spinners, DJ What What and DJ Finzo had everyone on their feet and dancing along to their varied mix packages. Veteran musicians Letta Mbulu and Caiphus Semenya dished out evergreen classics.

Other local acts, including Ringo Madlingozi, Zonke and Zahara did not disappoint. Passionately and fondly, they belted out their most popular songs, which were complimented by a rhythmic wave of accompanied singing from the highly appreciative crowd.

The only downside was the poor treatment by security guards of the media, revellers who - like the journalists - were carrying official accreditation tags and ordinary fans alike.

For first timers and media representatives, entry to the Free State Stadium proved challenging and exhausting. This was despite the fact that the Sowetan team were wearing official accreditation bands.
