Sowetan TimeOut chats to Bubu Mazibuko.
The actress recently joined SABC1's new local mini drama series Dream World, which debuted yesterday at 8.30pm as part of the innovative Shakespeare in Mzansi drama series.
The latest mini-drama is an adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Her acting credits include drama series such as Yizo Yizo, Zero Tolerance, Behind the Badge and Jozi Streets. Mazibuko also played receptionist Phumla in Tshisa.
She was the casting director for the third and fourth seasons of the television drama series Gaz'lam, in which she had a starring role as Thuli, from 2002-2005.
In 2008 Mazibuko played the role of Luntu in Entabeni - the first adaptation of the series based on the classic Macbeth.

Wow! I am an actor. I love making films. I was raised by a single mother but I am quite a private person.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Soweto. I went to school in Swaziland (Florence Christian Academy). I then studied film in the United States for four years.
How was it like studying in New York?
The first few months I was homesick but as time went by I got used to the city and loved it.
When was your last project?
It was last year. I have been doing a lot of movies and attending film festivals around the world.
What is Dream World all about?
Dream World is a beautiful story about young lovers. I don't want to give out much but I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
Three things you can't do without?
My mother: I still need her to guide me, though I am an adult.
Yoga: I love it because it calms me down even though I don't do it often.
Chocolate: I would be miserable without it
Your career highlights?
I have been so blessed in my career. I showcased three of my plays in February: Descend, Man on the Ground and My Zulu Promise at the Los Angeles film festival. Some producers and directors loved them. I was happy with how my work was received.
What do you tweet about?
I tweet about basic nonsense (chuckles). I don't spend the whole day on Twitter like other people do. If something is funny, I will definitely tweet about it.
Which actors stand out for you in SA?
Thomas Gumede: He's funny, can act, present and do stand-up comedy. The fact that he is a young hustler impresses me highly.
Fana Mokoena: He's one of the actors that I respect.

First on-screen kiss:
It was during Yizo Yizo. I kissed a teacher, played by Menzi Ngubane.
First bank account:
I was 17. The account had no money until I got my first job.
First expensive item you bought yourself:
It was in 2002 when I bought a plane ticket to New York. It cost me R8,000.
First red carpet moment:
It was at the Duku Duku awards. I was nominated for Best Actress in Gaz'lam. It was the first time I had been nominated for anything in my life.
The first time I got body art was:
In 1995, I had a nose ring. I had to walk around the house covering my nose so that my mother could not see what I had done.
