Balls of ice from thunderstorms

HAIL is solid precipitation that falls from thunderstorms as round or irregular balls of ice.

Hailstones can be as large as 50mm across and can fall at speeds of 160kmh.

Hailstones, weighing about 1kg, fell in Bangladesh on April 14 1986, while ones of 3.4kg were reported in India in 1939. -
