SABC brings Cape jazz fest to your home

THE country's biggest jazz fest will begin at the Cape Town International Convention Centre tomorrow and end on Saturday.

It will feature top jazz artists from both South Africa and abroad and many a jazz fan is expected to be in the Mother City this weekend.

But don't worry if you are not among the lucky ones who have tickets for the Cape Town International Jazz Festival because you can still enjoy the great music and the musicians in the comfort of your home.

All you need is a radio or a television set.

A number of SABC radio and television stations have lined up teams to cover the festival live tomorrow, on Saturday and on Sunday.

Good Hope FM is the main sponsor of the free Community Concert on Cape Town's Greenmarket Square today.

The station will also provide MC's for the concert and will broadcast live from the venue from 3pm to 6pm.

Good Hope FM will conduct interviews with the various artists performing at the festival. The live coverage tomorrow is from 7pm to 2am and on Saturday from 6pm to 2am.

SAfm will cover the prestigious festival with four live shows tomorrow and two shows on Saturday.

Metro FM's Urban Jazz team will collate and package the content of their show, which will air on Sunday, April 1.

Metro FM presenters will crossi live from the venue and keep listeners informed about happenings. Presenters of the radio station will also interview various jazz musicians.

Radio 2000 will have outside broadcasts tomorrow and on Saturday.

The following programmes will have interviews with the jazz musicians who will perform at Talk on 2000 with Thabiso Tema, One Night Stand with the King - David Mashabela, The Urban Cruise with KG Moeketsi and co-host Eric Alan as well as Positive Weekend Vibrations with Kenny Nkwashu

Umhlobo Wenene will have live broadcasts from the festival tomorrow and on Saturday.

Thobela FM presenters will also cross live from and feature interviews with jazz artists.

The influential and very popular television breakfast show, SABC2's Morning Live, is currently flighting shows in support of the Jazz Festival.

SABC3's much-loved Top Billing on Tuesday featured some of the big names performing at the Jazz Festival, while SABC3's equally popular Flash, will at 9pmon Fridays,cover the celebrity scene in Cape Town tomorrow and after the festival.

Espresso, the breakfast show on SABC3 from 6am to 9am, has also started hosting local and international artists this week leading up to the event, including a scheduled interview on Wednesday with Lindiwe Suttle and her band.

All the way from Belgium, Suttle and her band gave viewers a taste of what to expect at this year's festival.

On SABC3 today the wonderful jazz saxophonist Moreira Chonguica and his band performed a tribute to various legendary Mozambican musicians.

"The SABC has a long history with the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and it gives us great pleasure to officially announce this partnership," SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago told Sowetan.
