Charmer on the loose on Generations

SOAPIE-hopper Melusi Yeni has joined SABC1's Generations.

Yeni, recently appeared on M-Net soapie The Wild, where he portrayed the role of Isaac.

Born in KwaMashu in Durban, Yeni joins the soapie as this charmer boy known as Phenyo Mkhize. Phenyo was introduced to the viewers last week and has already swept Dineo Mashaba off her feet.

"I signed a one-year contract with The Wild and when it ended I came to Generations."

After Dineo Mashaba's disastrous showcase at a fashion, Phenyo made sure he was "there" for her.

Defining the character, Yeni says Phenyo is a smooth guy and a chancer. "He has a soft-spot for women. He has fallen for this woman (Dineo) in a big way. He cannot get over her. Phenyo is a charmer of note."

Yeni says as much as Phenyo is a ladies man, he is also a distinguished and established businessman who came to Johannesburg to make it big.

"He comes from Durban and has a family. He is a corporate labour lawyer and will be doing serious business with Sibusiso Dlomo."

He says the big question about Phenyo was whether he will commit or continue playing with women's feelings.

Yeni has portrayed the role of a legal eagle in many television shows. He played a lawyer in SABC1's drama series Sokhulu and Partners.

Asked about being typecast, he said: "I would love to portray a bad boy or a tsotsi. Portraying a role of the lawyer in many show has build a reputation (for me).

"Wherever I go, people assume that I have studied law. It works for me. I am not complaining."

Yeni has also acted in Tshisa, Home Affairs, Mtunzini.com and SABC3's Isidingo.
