MULTI-TALENTED: Actress and singer Thembi Mtshali-Jones is taking her show to the US.

AFTER 40 years of acting and singing, Thembi Mtshali-Jones is still going strong.

Mtshali-Jones, who is best known for her shebeen queen role in SABC2's Stokvel, is doing very well in theatres in Cape Town.

The multi-talented performer will take her one-hander show, Woman to Woman, to the international stages. Based in Cape Town, Mtshali-Jones says apart from Stokvel she is doing a lot of theatre.

"I will be taking my show to Bermuda, on the east coast of the United States, at the end of the month. The show has been in demand since last year when it was invited to the National Black Theatre Festival in North Carolina," she said.

In 2010 she appeared in the M-Net soccer drama series League of Glory .

Mtshali-Jones is among the people who toured the world with Ipi Ntombi in 1976. When other cast members returned to South Africa, she remained in New York and joined the late Miriam Makeba as a backing singer.

Since then she has done theatre, recorded three albums and established her name on television.

She was also a lead vocalist for the late Sipho Gumede's band and the African Jazz Pioneers. She has just recorded some of the songs she did with Gumede.

Her theatre credits include Marabi, Truth in Reconciliation and Umabatha, which toured South Africa, the UK and the US.

She co-wrote and starred in Eden and Other Places, Woman of Africa and Have You Seen Zandile. She also appeared in a host of television series, including Divers Down, Generations, Interrogation Room, Madam & Eve, Scoop Scoombie, Takalani Sesame, S.O.S., Stokie, Fishy Feshuns, Backstage, Silent Witness and S'gudi Snaysi.

In 2009, she acted in films such as Themba, Country of my Skull, Cape of Good Hope and The Wooden Camera.
