Rising sea levels

THERE may be some uncertainty about how much temperatures have increased due to global warming over the past 100 years or so, but it has taken place.

Satellite pictures have shown that over the past 15 years the sea level rose about twice as much as over the past 100 years.

Global warming leads to rising sea levels in the following ways:

l Ocean water expands as it warms, taking up more space.

l The warming leads to glaciers and ice sheets melting, raising sea levels because there is more water in the oceans.
