Thabiso hits the big time

YOUNG hip-hop artist Thabiso Malefane, aka Morale, is a man with a mission.

The Soweto born and-bred artist is just one of many up-and-coming musicians who is taking the industry to another level.

Malefane, who started rapping during the late 90s when sounds of Wu Tang Clan and Mischief were still dominant, is a talented individual. As a township boy he had to travel from Soweto to the suburbs to meet up with artists such as Maggz and L-tido and Shaun Pages.

He says his rap style has a poetic and emotional slant.

"With a song like Ayaamah, I had to look into some of the issues that were really of concern to the community. My music is about different kind of life, it talks about dreams and inspiration to the society," he says.

His single, Ayaamah, from his coming album Smile, Clap and Bow is currently making waves on radio charts and features Zola.

The rapper has become a major player on the local hip-hop scene. In 2007 he won mixtape of the year award for his Rising Son mixtape. before releasing his debut album Rising Star in 2008, which received quite a lot of airplay on radio.

He has shared the stage with HHP, Slum Village, Jozi, Keith Murray, Teargas, Mandoza and TKZee.

In 2011 the rising star signed with music mogul Vusi Leeuw - owner of HUGE Entertainment.

"I believe that our music is growing slowly and I have full confidence that over the next coming years with our business skills, our music will become brands," he says.
