Mazwai is ready to dazzle fans after break

AFTER taking a break from the music scene, Afro-Jazz singer Thandiswa Mazwai will be making a comeback.

Mazwai, who last performed in April this year, is expected to dazzle music fans at Carnival City in Brakpan tomorrow.

Having released three solo albums, Mazwai will share the stage with celebrated South African musical couple Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu.

"My band and I are looking forward to Saturday's (tomorrow's) performance," she said.

"It's my first performance after a break. There will be few surprises we have in store for the people."

Since August is Women's Month, Mazwai will pay tribute to several music icons such as Busi Mhlongo and Miriam Makeba.

"My set will be different in the sense that I want to honour women who have contributed a lot to the industry. I will do their songs and more will be seen on Saturday."

She could not hide her excitement over the prospect of sharing the stage with veteran musicians like Letta Mbulu.

"Mama Letta is one of the people who inspired me a lot. I love most of her songs," she said.

Asked about her break, she said: "I decided to take a break from music because I had a few issues to clear up and also to mourn Sis Busi Mhlongo's death.

"As a musician I decided to take a silent moment and understand the political and social issues."

Meanwhile, Mbulu and Semenya will take the crowd down memory lane with their hits.

Tickets at Computicket cost from R180 to R275.
