Stunning line-up for Joy of Jazz

NEWTOWN will turn into a vibrant jazz village for three days in August as top international musicians and their local and continental counterparts entertain revellers

The line-up for the popular annual music feast was confirmed by the organisers yesterday.

Those who will converge on the precinct from August 25 to August 27 to serve up sophisticated and enchanting jazz tunes at the ever popular Standard Bank Joy of Jazz include legends Wynton Marsalis and McCoy Tyner.

Among those also confirmed are America's Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gerald Veasley, Jeff Lorber, Alexander O'Neal and Frank McComb.

They will be joined by Brazil's Tania Maria, Croatia's HGM Jazz Messengers and Belgium's Brussels Jazz Orchestra, who perform with our own Tutu Puoane.

South Africa also has an impressive presence at the festival.

Hugh Masekela and Sibongile Khumalo will perform alongside Mango Groove, Simphiwe Dana, the African Jazz Pioneers, Tu Nokwe, Kwela Tebza, Victor Ntoni, McCoy Mrubata, Ringo, Julius Schultz and pianist Bokani Dyer, the 2011 Standard Bank Young Artist jazz award winner.
