Terry Pheto's new movie is violent and vulgar

THE new movie, How to Steal 2 Million, which was screened for the media in Johannesburg this week, is likely to set tongues wagging when it premieres on July 29.

Its cast include Terry Pheto as Olive, a female gangster, veteran actor John Kani, who plays an old, dirty druglord, Menzi Ngubane, who has served five years for attempted murder, and hardened gangster and cash heist organiser Rapulana Seiphemo, among others.

How to Steal 2 million has all the ingredients of a good movie. Directed in the Hollywood style of gangster movies, there is extreme violence, murder and liberal use of foul language. There is also a sex scene.

However, it is the excessive use of foul language and extreme violence that is disturbing. I counted seven times when "f***" was used in the 90-minute-long movie.

While the movie is set to endear itself to those who have a liking for American-style gangster movies, it is the excessive use of foul language and extreme violence that will offend sensitive audiences and will most likely attract an age restriction.

How to Steal 2 Million is a directorial debut for young film director Charlie Vundla.

It is about a drug dealer father (Kani), who did some unexplained harm to his wife, in the process straining his relationship with his gangster son (Seiphemo).

In a scheming operation, the son organises fellow gangsters (Pheto and Ngubane) to steal R2 million from his father's home in Houghton, Johannesburg, in an operation that horribly goes wrong, resulting in the death of a policeman and a series of murders that unfold.

The only disappointment was that none of the actors in the movie were at the special screening.
