VETERAN keyboardist Rex Rabanye has died aged 66, leaving behind a music heritage that is bound to live long after him.
Rabanye died on Sunday in Mafikeng, North West, after a long illness. He was a hit maker of the 1960s and 1970s with his brand of dance and soul music.
One album that stands out is The Best of the Teenage Lovers, recorded and performed by Rabanye's group of the same name. One hit from that album - Potchefstroom Road - took the country by storm.
He performed at high-profile weddings as well as funerals. Rabanye received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent SA Music Awards.
According to his family, Rabanye was diagnosed with a rare condition around 1998, which saw him permanently using an oxygen machine and life-supporting drugs
His funeral service will take place on Saturday at the Potchefstroom Banquet Hall from 7am to 10am.
