Caesar has no voice for news and info leader

ARE we a country of a bunch of inept people - or are we just a society that takes jobs for pals a bit too far?

How else can one explain the hiring of Caesar Molebatsi to host SAfm's breakfast show?

The last I heard of Bra Caesar was during the days when he used to huff and puff on his TV talk show.

When the programme was discontinued I celebrated because the show didn't add value to my life or the life of my countrymen. Now somebody has done the unthinkable: resuscitating his broadcasting career - or what was left of it.

His most irritating feature is his voice. No one with that sort of voice should be on radio - and whoever hired him should also be fired for torturing our ears .

This radio morning programme sets the tone for the day and it baffles me that a station that prides itself as the news and information leader of radio in South Africa can mess up a show as crucial as this one.

I have nothing against the man himself, but with all this talk about the ruling party wanting a media tribunal radio listeners should maybe petition the SABC to have their own tribunal to say who gets hired to present what programme.

As for me, I listen to the radio for a living so, whether I like it or not, I have to tune in.

You have to listen to the man to understand what I am talking about.

His voice sometimes shoots off like Usain Bolt breaking the 100m record and at other times it finishes off like a beaten marathon runner.

I don't expect Bra Caesar to be like Oprah or Larry King but a man who has been in the game for donkey's years should know that you don't have to give a speech before you ask a question.

This is what lets him down during the debate. He spends a minute or two asking a simple question.

As a result you get lost as a listener as to what he is on about.

And you are guaranteed to get annoyed and switch to another station.

If there's a chance for Bra Caesar to go to a voice clinic, let him. Perhaps with a trained voice we might just have a well-rounded programme because, to be honest, he is calm and handles his guests with the utmost respect.

Do so. It might just work wonders.
