A sweet mix of maskandi

BY releasing a cracker of an album AbakwaVezi have made sure that no one can ignore their music.

No matter how pretentious you want to be, walking around with your head in the clouds, there is no way you can remain indifferent to maskandi group AbakwaVezi.

Their debut album, Ngithule Kanjani, has caught the public's attention since it hit the airwaves. The all-male maskandi group comes from Mshwati in Kwa-Zulu-Natal.

Ngithule Kanjani is a refreshing offering because of the mix of two interesting maskandi styles - ushameni and umzansi. This is one album with which you can to the traditional dance or do ingwazi or any modern dance.

The group is made up of three guys - Sbonani Dladla, Fisokuhle Dladla and Mphathi Mgenge - who are not only showcasing their vocal skills but a talent for composing songs.

The group's music has refreshing and rhythmic sounds and a humorous twist. From the first track to the last AbakwaVezi has succeeded in creating their own sound.

The group's album offers you songs that talk about love, social issues, customs and tradition. Sbonani, the founder of the group, says they compose songs about things that are happening in society.

"We try to look at things that are serious in society and that affect both men and women of all races" said Dladla.
