THIS year's Women's Day should be special. That is, if Morris Roda's National Women's Day Extravaganza, billed to take place on August 7 and 9, is anything to go by.
Roda promises to bring Grammy-winning singer Robin Thicke and Howard Hewett to the country just to spoil women.
The duo, who have touched the souls of many fans across the globe, will perform at the Sahara Kingsmead Stadium on August 9 in Durban and in Johannesburg on August 7 at a venue still to be decided.
Thicke has won three Grammys and composes songs for notable artists such as Lil Wayne, Mary J Blige, Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Hudson.
His breakthrough singles, Lost Without You and The Evolution of Robin Thicke, both joined achieved platinum status.
Raised in Akron, Ohio, Hewett came into the music scene as lead singer of Shalamar, a disco group that topped the charts in both the US and Britain.
In 1986 he decided to go solo and released the album I Commit To Love. He also did duets with Anita Baker, Dionne Warwick, Brenda Russell and and Stacey Lattisaw.
The two international singers will be joined by local crooners like Ringo, Ntando, Theo and Danny K.
On August 9 1956 women marched to Pretoria to petition the abolition of pass laws. This day recognises the bravery of those women who risked hurt, arrest, detention and banning.
Roda says: "On that day women will be pampered and spoilt for the day by men to show appreciation for what women are doing in South Africa."
