Hip-hop group features Mom Ruby on new album

AS IF portraying the famous role of shebeen queen in Generations was not enough, Slindile Nodangala, aka Mom Ruby, is featured by a hip-hop group called Mzansi Crew.

The group has just released its debut album, Tougher Than You, which features a track called Two Hearts as One.

Nodangala said she decided to work with Sihle Shabalala, Manqoba Khumalo and Thulani Nhlengethwa because they are talented.

"They have love and passion for what they do," she said. "They are disciplined, professional and respect the work that they do.

"I have been approached by other musicians , but I am very sceptical about just joining any group that has no love for what they do."

The group's manager, Given Matlombe, said: "Mom Ruby is a brand on her own with a beautiful voice. We met her while performing in Centurion.

"She was impressed with our performance. As a young upcoming group we have benefited a lot from working with her."

Nodangala, who also had a role in Gibson Kente's Umfowethu, has been performing for the past 10 years. She has also worked as a backing singer for Stimela and Steve Dyer.

Experienced both on stage and television, Nodangala has also done puppetry. She has appeared in Aubrey Sekhabi's On My Birthday at the Mmabana Theatre in Mafikeng.
