Sasol goes ahead with R135bn expansion

Petrochemicals giant Sasol will ramp up its capital expenditure in the next two years in a race to complete its multibillion-rand ethane cracker plant in the US while a programme to replace old mines in SA continues‚ the newspaper reported.

The multinational will spend R135bn in the two-year period on the Lake Charles‚ Louisiana ethane cracker plant to bring it to completion by April 2018‚ said finance director Bongani Nqwababa on Monday.

Next year Sasol will spend about R70bn and R65bn the following year‚ with a quarter of that on capital projects in SA‚ said Mr Nqwababa.
