Hip Hop World Championships

This year, the world championship was held at the Brondby Stadium in Denmark and was attended by 3000 dancers from 30 countries.

The Hip Hop Culture is part of the “beat” of our youth. Dance classes keep the children constructively occupied, especially when they are training to compete at international level.  Dance classes also teach the dancers to respect their bodies and to live healthy lifestyles. It is an exciting form of expression which engages our youth, facilitates their interaction with others and helps them to make sense of their world.  It provides a platform for communication and is a source of hope, positively influencing and changing lives.

Eunice Marais School of Dance started competing in the IDO competitions in 2004. In order to qualify to dance overseas. The dancers need to qualify by competing in National competitions where the top 5 solos, duos, top 3 formations, small groups and productions are eligible to compete internationally.

Our studio has a history of achieving at the World Championships: we have come first in the solo, duo, small group and the production sections over the past few years.

Our production, “Circle of Life” came first in 2011 and 2012, and this year, “Memories of a Friendship” made it a hat trick- to become the 1st country to win the production section for 3 consecutive years.

Our Formation of 24 dancers, “Gangstas” came 1st as well, to become the first junior formation in Africa, ever to have won the World Championships.
