Young scientist behind the annual International Innovation Indaba Sir. Stuart Ntlathi believes it's not all doom and gloom for South Africa's young scientists and innovators and this weekend will prove that the future of innovation has never been this bright in South Africa. "South Africa is pregnant with ideas, solutions and young people are asking for a platform to make these ideas a reality", says Ntlathi.
Ntlathi, 25, is the founder of the SNSETInstitute, the organisation behind the annual conference; The International Innovation Indaba, which has been in existence for over a decade and celebrating its twelfth anniversary this year. As usual, this celebration in Science, Engineering and Technology education will see the best minds converge in Klerksdorp from the 7th to the 9th of December 2012, to tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges in the field of technology and innovation.
Delegates to the conference were selected through an elimination process that saw hundreds of grade 10 learners competing in an innovation test. "For me science means solutions. For all the challenges we are facing as a continent, we have a better chance of building a better Africa if we invest in this field and it has always been my passion and commitment to build as many scientists as possible", says Ntlathi.
Ntlathi, a recipient of 45 awards to date including Community Builder of the Year believes that this weekend will not be a talk shop but one where delegates will participate in an intense programme of innovation, a fun and offbeat approach by young people for young people in an effort to highlight how scientific applications are utilised to improve lives. "Our aim is to make science, engineering, and technology as exciting, inclusive, and accessible as possible among all stakeholders and bridge the gap between young people and already qualified experts" says Ntlathi.
To top it off, at the conclusion of the Indaba all 100 delegates will receive bursaries to further their studies.
