A successful matric dance outfit competition comes to an end

We have come to an end of a successful year of SowetanLIVE's Matric Dance Outfit competition

Our lucky recipients are smiling all the way to the ball this November and December, with outfits sponsored to them by our local celebrities.

Innocentia Morolong, was super impressed with her gorgeous piece sponsored by Edith Venter. She says, "I'm going to feel very confident because I know this dress makes me look very beautiful. This is my first time in Joburg, I came all the way from Welkom to pick up my dress.. and after that trip, I feel this was worth it. I am going home with a smile and to the dance with the best feeling ever!"

Thabang Masenya and Thobela Mqoqi, two neighbourhood friends will be going to dance all smartly dressed, with suits sponsored by Tumisho Masha and Buti Manamela. But because they were quite small in the waist, the suits didn't fit them all too well, so we also put together an ensemble of other outfits sponsored by The Bala Brothers, just incase they couldn't get the others tailored on time.

Thobela said, "I now feel great going to the dance as I did not have anything to wear, now I do. This is wonderful!". His neighbourhood friend, Thabang says "This is a good experience, having to receive something. I never thought this would happen to me. I feel great knowing that I can rock up to the dance in this. If Sowetan didn't come through for me, I wouldn't have made it to a night that we all matriculants look forward to after years of hard work."

Jamie Swartz can't begin to describe the feeling of going home with a showstopper, sponsored by Sonia Sedibe. I" have never won anything in my life, this is very exciting for me. Thanks to my aunt Denise and Sowetan, I can go the dance with confidence. "

Rethabile Tsholele says, "This is like the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am so grateful. I never had an interest in going to the dance because I could not afford a dress - but now I am going!"

Prudence Khumalo took home a sexy green dress sponsored by Sonia Sedibe. She says she can't wait for her matric dance now that she has a stunning green number. She thanks her aunt, Nonhlanhla Khumalo wholeheartedly for nominating her to win the dress - because of this, she managed to get herself a dress in her favourite colour. Lucky girl!..

Mathapelo Sebati who walked away with a dress sponsored by Stoned Cherrie, says "I feel good about the dance, now that I have a gorgeous dress."

We also gave away an outfit sponsored by Penny Lebyane to Mbali Mahlangu which included a dress and a matching pair of shoes.

And Tshepo Motaung is also going to the dance with a suit from Tumisho Masha. His mom Elizabeth Motaung says " Thank you for not only helping us but also other kids making their special night happen for them. You have helped the poor alot. In the bible it says, 'If you give to the poor, you also lend to God'..Thank you Sowetan and the celebrities that helped make this happen".

Thanks not only to all celebrities, but also to Vusi Mathabela for sponsoring one of our winners, Lenza Mkhatshwa by offering to do her hair, nails and make-up for the night. The world needs people like you who are willing to make a difference, no matter how small or big in people's lives.

To all you lucky marticulants, we're glad we could make you concentrate better on your studies, by taking away the stress of finding that outift for your special night. We understand the financial difficulties you are all experiencing, and hope we have made at least a little difference in your lives.

We wish you all the best in your exam results and hope you have a blast at the matric dance.
