Post Office chief executive Motswanesi Lefoka has been put on leave pending a corruption probe, board chairwoman Vuyo Mahlati said on Tuesday.

“She has been placed on a leave of absence pending the outcome of hearings,” said Mahlati. This happened last Friday.

Mahlati said Lefoka was considered innocent until proven guilty, and was partly responsible for the Sapo’s seventh profitable year in a row.

Last Friday also saw a mutual agreement on the termination of chief operating officer John Wentzel’s contract.

There was no golden handshake involved, just “contractual” matters, Mahlati said.

RESULTS ANNOUNCED

Revenue at the SA Post Office is up by 3% for the year ending March 2011, the company announced on Tuesday.

This was achieved despite a decline of 3.7% in mail volumes.

“We are actually very pleased to be announcing our results this year,” said board chairwoman Vuyo Mahlati.

Revenue came in at R5.8 billion, assets were up 5.7% to R10bn and Postbank depositor’s funds were up 9.1% to R4bn.

The post office served 78 million customers and provided 1.7 million new addresses.
