THE Miriam Tlali Reading & Book Club continues to showcase the best of South Africa's literary talent

Named after and honouring iconic author Miriam Tlali, the club, which is celebrating its second anniversary, is a South African Literary Awards (Sala) legacy project organised by wRite Associates and supported by the City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services.

Everyone is invited to its latest session at the African Literature Bookshop on 191 Louis Botha Avenue, Orange Grove in Johannesburg on Saturday from 2pm.

This session will honour Ingoapele Madingoane, an poet of the Black Consciousness era of the 1970s and 1980s and a Sala lifetime achievement recipient.

It will also feature the creative finesse of creative minds such as Duma ka Ndlovu, Maishe Maponya, Natalia Molebatsi, Keorapetse Kgosi-tsile, Marcia Tladi, Toto Mubenga and Walter Chakela.

Ndlovu, who is best known as creator and producer of the SABC2 drama Muvhango, is an award-winning playwright, poet, academic and activist.

Maponya is an arts and culture all-rounder. Professor Kgositsile is national Poet Laureate. Tladi is a rising talent in children's literature and a regular facilitator of the club's kiddies programmes.

Molebatsi is a poet. She has compiled the forceful and youthful anthology, We Are.

Chakela, a highly respected playwright and director, is best remembered for the sensitive treatment of the stage adaptation of Bessie Head's book Maru. Mubenga is a published author.
