Majali link to another scam

A COMPANY linked to controversial businessman Sandile Majali has been fingered in a damning forensic audit report on an allegedly fraudulent bid for a closed circuit television system contract.

The company, Omega Risk Solutions, recently took the City of Tshwane to court for awarding a CCTV camera tender worth R122million to rival company Morubisi Technologies.

Majali's Imvume Resources, which is currently under liquidation, bought a 25percent stake in Omega Risk Solutions two years ago. Court action is at present under way to claim the stake for Imvume's creditors, but Omega contests that the transaction was never finalised.

Majali hit the headlines when Imvume was given an oil procurement contract by PetroSA. He then donated R11million to the ANC for its 2004 election campaign.

In court papers before the Pretoria high court this week, Omega Risk Solutions claims that the city authorities acted in bad faith in awarding the CCTV tender. The case will be heard on March 14 next year.

The disputed tender is one of three major deals being investigated by the Special Investigating Unit.

A confidential audit report compiled by Gobodo Inc lists how Omega Risk Solutions' bid was rejected because it did not comply with tender conditions, failed to supply the metro council with the necessary documentation and misrepresented facts to influence the tender.

Omega managing director Alex de Wit denied the allegations levelled at his company and said the tender was incorrectly awarded to Morubisi.

Explaining Majali's connections to Omega Risk Solutions, De Wit said the formalities pertaining to the transfer of the shares were never finalised due to alleged misconduct related to Imvume Resources in the oil-for-food deal with former Iraqi dictator Sadam Hussein's regime.

Morubisi Technologies boss Fana Moraka said he could not comment as the matter was sub judice.
