EBS scholarships to benefit 250

EDINBURGH Business School has launched a massive scholarship scheme across Africa, which will give 250 students an opportunity to study in its flagship MBA programme.

The African Scholarship Programme, endorsed by Graça Machel, was officially launched in Johannesburg this week.

Edinburgh Business School is part of the Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom.

The programme is believed to be the largest scholarship scheme ever offered by a United Kingdom university. It will give 50 full scholarships each year for the Edinburgh Business School distance learning MBA for the next five years.

Keith Lumsden, director of the school, said the programme "will help students fulfil their talents and reap the career rewards they deserve".

Lumsden said the school had been active in Africa for 20 years.

The first 38 scholarship students from 14 African states recently began their studies in the scheme run in conjunction with the Canon Collins Trust. A number of women scholarship students will receive mentoring under the Graça Machel Mentoring Programme.

Exams are written in June and December at more than 350 centres around the world.
