The World Boxing Council's ratings committee has awarded Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler with a No 8 spot in the junior flyweight rankings.

This despite the fact that the WBA Pan African belt Budler won against Siyabonga Siyo at Emperors Palace two weekends ago is a regional title which simply means that it is not superior.

This boxing body - which is represented here by BSA board member doctor Peter Ngatane - is known for not dishing out rankings for the sake of having boxers' names in its rankings.

When a boxer is recognised by the WBC's ratings committee, the position in that particular weight division becomes secondary. What matters most is to be rated by the WBC.

Ngatane - who is a member of the WBC's board of governors - made it clear some time back that the WBC rates quality "therefore any local boxer whose name is included in WBC's ratings must be proud of themselves because it means there is something special about them".

Budler is the former WBA Super and IBO straw weight champion.

Ring Magazine - which is recognised in the world as the Bible of Boxing - has also placed Budler on the No 8 spot in the junior flyweight class. This magazine - which was first published in 1922 - dropped Budler from the No 1 spot to the second position in the straw weight division after he lost to Byron Rojas from Nicaragua in March.

Budler 28, who is trained by Colin Nathan and Vusi Mtolo - has 30 wins in 32 fights.

"I was not aware of all this until you called me. I hope to continue doing good so that my position in the WBC and Ring Magazine rankings improves," said Budler whose trainers are in the USA with former IBO lightweight champion Xolisani "Nomeva" Ndongeni who will fight Juan Garcia Mendez over 10 rounds in California on Friday.
