The South African Football Players Union (SAPU) has strongly condemned bad behaviour by soccer stars who break the rules on the roads.
This comes after the arrest of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo, who was allegedly caught driving at 173km/h in Johannesburg over the weekend.
SAPU voiced to Sowetan LIVE that drastic measures needed to be taken against those who disobey the law since no one is above the law.
"All of us need to be responsible on the roads since we are all equal before the law. Players should be cautious on the roads," said SAPU general secretary Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe.
"We need to have a partnership with law enforcement agencies to teach the whole football community about the road dangers. Lot of players in the past have past on through accidents".
The union plans to embark on a road safety campaign, with the assistance of Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters.
