Morocco‚ which lost the rigged bid to SA‚ may be able to demand compensation from the South African government.

Government’s many pronouncements about the billions that the World Cup brought in to the country could be used to arrive at a total that Morocco could use to make such a demand.

According to Washingtontimes.com news website, FIFA said it spent $1.298 billion on the World Cup in South Africa and also gave $100 million to the World Cup Legacy Trust, a fund that supports grassroots soccer projects.

So if found guilty of any wrong doing; the country would be required to pay the combined amounts or more to Morocco as compensation.

Meanwhile, South African Minister of Sports and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, is expected to brief the media today regarding the FIFA World Cup 2010 bribery allegations brought against FIFA by the US Attorney’s office.

"The Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Fikile Mbalula has noted statements by the US Department of Justice that allege bribes were paid to FIFA Officials for the selection of the 2010 World Cup host,” said the Official Twitter Account of the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa on Wednesday evening.– Additional reporting by Rdm News Wire.
