BENNETT Chenene only knew 30 minutes before the transfer window closed last month that he would be moving to University of Pretoria from Pretoria rivals SuperSport United.

The left winger rejected loan moves to Polokwane City, AmaZulu and Platinum Stars, while a return to struggling Moroka Swallows fell through.

However, when AmaTuks made an offer to get Chenene on loan for the rest of the season, it made sense to accept the deal and receive regular game time after failing to break into the starting line-up at Matsatsantsa.

The 31-year-old says it would not have made sense to join a team outside Gauteng on a loan deal.

"I was only told about the move 30 minutes before the deadline. I think this move is best for me because I am looking for game time. If I don't play, my value will go down.

"I think I can get a nice deal here if I can perform well and score a few goals."

The former Orlando Pirates player added: "I don't think I can go to Polokwane or Rustenburg for six months. It would not have been worth it, especially for someone my age. If those clubs had offered me a permanent deal, then I would have moved.

"I was thinking of going back to my former team Swallows, but we did not agree on certain things. It feels like I have been here [at AmaTuks] for a long time. They gave me a good welcome."

Chenene made his debut for AmaTuks when he was introduced late in the game, which they won 2-1 against Chippa United at Tuks Stadium on Tuesday night.

His teammate Geoffrey Massa said he was happy to stay with the team after Tuks rejected an offer from AmaZulu for his services during last month's transfer window.

"I have a contract with Tuks and I am happy here," he said.
