ERNST Middendorp, the Maritzburg United coach, has played down the club's Premier League title aspirations after their 3-1 triumph against Moroka Swallows on Saturday night at Dobsonville.

"These positions, three, four, five and six (on the log) are for teams such as Sundowns, Supersport and Bloemfontein Celtic - for life and that's OK.

"We will just enjoy where we are for the moment," said Middendorp regarding Maritzburg's surprise third-place standing.

Maritzburg find themselves in unfamiliar territory after 12 matches this season, having lost only once and only trailing early pacesetters Kaizer Chiefs by four points at the top.

The KwaZulu-Natal side have often finished in the bottom half of the table - usually battling it to survive relegation.

But suddenly they are up there with what Middendorp described as the "best teams in this league".
