SUSPENDED Cricket SA chief executive Gerald Majola moved a step closer to the axe yesterday when a disciplinary hearing found him guilty on all charges.
Majola faced nine charges related to the payment of bonuses without the full knowledge of CSA's board and unauthorised travel expenses.
The decision was handed down in the absence of Majola, who withdrew from the hearing last Tuesday and instead launched a labour court action against CSA and seven other respondents, among them President Jacob Zuma.
"We will invite Mr Majola to make representation on mitigating circumstances on why a harsh sanction is not appropriate," CSA lawyer Nicholas Preston said yesterday.
Majola's lawyer confirmed that neither he nor Majola would attend today's proceedings.
"That does not really concern us," Pumezo David said.
"We will consider our options to the processes we are involved in. There is no reason for us to legitimise this process."
The bonuses in question amounted to R4.7-million. They were paid to 40 CSA employees for work done on the 2009 editions of the Indian Premier League and the Champions Trophy.
The chairman of Majola's hearing, Karel Tip SC, will today consider what sanctions to impose.
Preston said it was "highly possible" that the organisation would ask for Majola to be dismissed.
