BANYANA Banyana players have a busy run-up to the 2012 London Olympics, which will include a two-week camp in Germany.
The South African senior women's side have qualified for their first major tournament, but have been drawn in an extremely tough pool that includes world champions Japan, former World Cup winners Sweden and a strong Canadian unit.
Their build-up to the tournament will be intense, starting with the return leg of their 2012 African Women's Championship qualifier against Zambia in Nelspruit on Saturday. The team will assemble in camp for that game today.
They beat Zambia 4-1 in the first leg of that encounter away and will expect to finish the job and advance to the tournament finals that will be hosted by Equatorial Guinea from November 4 to 18.
They will then head to Nigeria on June 20 for a friendly international against the Super Falcons, having played to a 1-1 draw with the West Africans in South Africa just over a week ago.
They return from Nigeria on June 24 and the home-based players will go straighintotheSasolLeague National Championships with their competing club sides.
The team will then embark on a camp in Germany from July 2 until they return to South African on July 16 for a pre-Olympics farewell event.
Coach Joseph Mkhonza is hoping to arrange as many friendlies as he can while the team is in Europe, though at this stage none has been finalised.
