LUXOLO Matikinca, general manager of Blackburn Rovers, says his charges have the strength to contest for promotion to the Absa Premiership next season.
This after the Port Elizabeth-based National First Division outfit came from two goals down to defeat Sivutsa Stars 4-2 at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday.
Following that victory Rovers moved temporarily to the second spot on the log with 34 points from 19 games, temporarily because third and fourth-placed Vasco da Gama and Thanda Royal Zulu were scheduled to play their matches at different venues yesterday. Matikinca said they were back on track after they lost it towards the end of the first round after spending the better part of the round at the top of the log.
"We will continue to work hard to ensure that we maintain the second spot as it is clear that most of the top teams have lost track. We will capitalise on the situation to ensure that we keep our promotion ambition intact," Matikinca said yesterday.
Sivutsa Stars boss Derick "Khaya" Khoza said they were disappointed to have lost the match.
"The problem was that our defence including the last line lost concentration in the second half and as a result allowed our opponents to regroup strongly. We conceded soft and silly goals. We hope that the boys will regroup and be ready for the Nedbank Cup match against Free State Stars in two weeks time," said a not- so-happy Khoza yesterday.
