ADMIRED South African swimmer Cameron van der Burgh has done it again.

Yesterday the 22-year-old claimed Team South Africa's second bronze medal at the 14th Fina World Championships in Shanghai, China.

He finished third in the 50m breaststroke final, failing to defend the title he won in Rome in 2009.

Van der Burgh clocked 27.19 seconds to secure a spot on the medal podium behind Brazil's Felipe da Silva (27.01) and Italy's Fabio Scozzoli (27.17).

He won his first bronze on Monday in the 100m breaststroke.

"It's one of those things, it happens sometimes in the 50m sprints. I was hoping for a gold medal but I must say I'm satisfied with two medals," Van der Burgh said.

"These championships form part of my preparations for the 2012 London Olympics and I can say so far, so good."

Chad le Clos ended fifth in a very close 200m butterfly final won by world record-holder Michael Phelps of the US in a time of 1:53.34.

Le Clos's time was 1:55.07.
