THE South African Fed Cup team overcame a steep challenge in the Europe/Africa Group III in Cairo, Egypt this week, beating their hosts 3-0 to gain promotion to Group II.
The team, comprising Natalie Grandin, Chanel Simmonds, Natasha Fourouclas and Madrie le Roux successfully forged their way through the round-robin stage of the tournament to face off against host team Egypt for a place in next year's Europe/Africa Group II.
The experienced Grandin started off the tie with a comfortable 6-1 6-1 victory over Mayar Sherif.
Simmonds then took to the court and was also untroubled in dispatching Magy Aziz 6-2 6-1.
With the tie being decided 2-0, Fourouclas and Le Roux went up against Mai El Kamash and Mayar Sherif in the doubles rubber, which the South African duo won 7-5 4-6 and 10-6 in the deciding third set tie break.
