GERALD Majola celebrated the 10th anniversary of his appointment as chief executive officer of Cricket South Africa (CSA) yesterday on the first day of the third and final Test match of the series between South Africa and India at Newlands in Cape Town.

Majola, 50, spent his first day as CEO of the United Cricket Board of South Africa (now CSA) at Newlands on January 2 2001 during the second Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

A special award was made to Majola during the luncheon interval by Western Province Cricket Association chief executive Andre Odendaal, to mark his decade-long service.

Majola, the longest-serving CEO in world cricket, comes from an Eastern Cape sporting dynasty.

Majola himself played cricket and rugby at the highest level available to him before the unification of South African sport.

"It has been particularly uplifting to being part of the continuing transformation of South African cricket in CSA's mission to make cricket a truly national sport of winners," he said.
