At least six people were killed by tornadoes in the US state of Texas late Wednesday, news reports said.

More than 100 people were injured and 75 houses destroyed when one or more twisters hit the area outside the town of Granbury, 50 kilometres south-west of Fort Worth, USA Today reported, citing Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.

School buses were requisitioned to ferry residents to safety, CNN reported.
