Takes overdose - report

Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani is in hospital after a suicide bid.

Dewani, 31 – charged in South Africa over the killing of bride Anni – was taken to hospital after an overdose, the UK Mirror newspaper reports.

He is said to be in a stable condition.

A source said: “Shrien was found at home on Sunday afternoon. He had taken a load of pills and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. He’s OK now physically but mentally he’s still suffering”.

PR specialist Max Clifford, who is speaking for the family, said the businessman was in hospital in his hometown of Bristol.

Clifford declined comment on the report of suicide, saying instead: “Shrien has been suffering for some time. His family and friends have been getting increasingly concerned about him. He doesn’t eat, he doesn’t sleep and has lost something like 15kg in the last two months. He was taken to hospital on Sunday afternoon and doctors were concerned because he’s been getting weaker and weaker”.

South African police claim Dewani ordered the murder of Anni, 28, who was shot dead in a Cape Town carjacking on their honeymoon last November. He denies involvement.
