While the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) continues to debate President Jacob Zuma’s future‚ the president will still find time on Monday to host his Ugandan counterpart‚ President Yoweri Museveni.
The Presidency announced late on Monday afternoon that Zuma would meet Museveni at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
“The two heads of state are expected to review bilateral co-operation between their two countries as well as the latest regional political and security developments on the continent‚” spokesman Bongani Ngqulunga said.
The NEC meeting‚ which has been debating at length whether Zuma should step down in order to prevent further decline in the party’s electoral support‚ is expected to continue late into Monday evening.
Talks about his removal began on Saturday when Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom proposed that he step aside as president of the country‚ citing negative publicity that was harming the ANC.
