Economic Freedom Fighters will take over from the Democratic Alliance as the official opposition by 2019, this is according to leader Julius Malema.

Addressing the American Chamber of Commerce at the Johannesburg Country Club on Tuesday, Malema said that the DA has reached their peak and the EFF is overtaking them.

"The DA has reached its ceiling. Come 2019 we will be the official opposition in this country. That's where we are going, that's the only direction we are taking.

"We are the party that's going to replace the ANC. We don't have some myopic plan. Ours is a strategic view. We have a long vision," said Malema.

Contrary to popular belief, Malema says that his party is not formed out of anger after most of its leaders were booted out of the ANC and it's Youth League in April 2012.

"We are not formed out of anger. We are formed out of ideological perspective to usher in socialism in our lifetime."

Malema also touched on the arms deal saying that even years after the commission, the country still does not know what really transpired.

"Till today, there's no proper explanation of the arms deal. Till today nobody has served a jail term for arms deal. Commission has been established we don't know what's happening to that commission, people have been resigning from that commission all those type of things till today because corruption in the ANC is not punishable, actually it's rewarded."
