All reports that implicate President Jacob Zuma’s friends in the executive “are either cooked or permanently postponed”‚ the Economic Freedom Fighters said.

This was the party’s reaction to the last-minute postponement of police minister Nathi Nhleko’s “release of a report that should tell the country how much president Zuma needs to pay for the unlawful and criminal upgrade of his private home in Nkandla”.

No official reason for the postponement was given in the Government Communication and Information Service’s terse release that said simply: “BRIEFING POSTPONED by 24 hours‚ it will take place tomorrow‚ same time (19h00).”

It had been scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday night.

“The EFF has always warned about the incompetence of the ANC government and its lack of urgency and respect for the public‚” said EFF spokesman Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi.

“The EFF was not grandstanding when it persuaded South Africans to be sceptical about anything this government promises because it never keeps its promises.”

Zuma too should not be believed‚ Ndlozi said‚ “when he says he will release the Marikana report [before the] ‘end of next month’ because all reports that implicate his friends in the executive are either cooked or permanently postponed”.

Ndlozi said the EFF “remains unequivocal about its demand that the public protector’s recommendations and remedial action should be strictly adhered to”.

“Zuma must pay back the money that was spent in all the non-security features of the Nkandla upgrade because they were illegal and corrupt.”
