President Jacob Zuma's special advisor and spokesperson Mr Mac Maharaj is set to retire from his post at the end of April 2015.

The announcement was made by the presidency earlier today.

“We wish to thank Mr Maharaj for this special service to the President and the country and wish him well in his retirement,” said President Zuma.

"It is time to slow down a bit”, the 80 year old Maharaj said.

According to the statement by the presidency, "Deputy Director-General in the Government Communication and Information System, Mr Harold Maloka will be acting spokesperson to the President from May 2015 until further notice."
