The 9-foot-tall red statue, with a pointed tail and horns atop his head holds one hand up in a devil-horn salute familiar to heavy metal fans and an erect penis was what the locals in Vancouver were surprised with earlier this week.
The statue caused quite a stir next to the SkyTrain tracks and city officials weren't exactly nuts about it. So they removed the statue since no-one had claimed responsibility to the little stunt.
But, the removal of the giant naked Satan was not exactly in the best interest of fans.
A local named Darryl Greer has started an online petition requesting the statue be re-erected.
One of the requests on the petition read:
“By removing the statue of Penis Satan, you are taking from us our freedom of expression, restricting our sexuality, and stigmatizing our religious beliefs. Please return him immediately."
A city spokeswoman who declined to be named told the Vancouver Sun that the statue will not be reinstalled and was taken down because it wasn’t a piece of public art commissioned by the city. She added that the horny devil is waiting in a city works yard for its owners to come reclaim it.
