DOES the new Metro FM programme line-up mean that veteran DJs are reduced to once a week on-air specialists?

Of the old station's DJs, Eddie Zondi is the only one running midweek and his popular Sunday Romantic Repertoire slots.

The new line-up has seen him being replaced by Ismail Abrahams on the Mondays to Thursdays slots as from Monday.

Besides Zondi, the other veteran DJ is Wilson B Nkosi who, on a much slower and reflective pace, has held his Sunday \mid-day slot for years.

Zondi was not impressed when contacted for comment. "I'm busy with my Mzansi Magic television show," he said before hanging up.

On Monday evening he welcomed the new DJ by tweeting a message to his fans to support Abrahams.

"@EddieZondy Ismail Abrahams is yo new host from 21H00 to Midnite. Show some love!!."

Abrahams's new show is titled Prime Time Night Radio and airs from Mondays to Fridays from 9pm to midnight.

The DJ told Sowetan that this show will keep listeners awake at night and will not be like the stereotypical night-time radio meant to lull people to sleep.

"The show is packed with content, different genres of music and will have the fun element," said Abrahams.

The DJ has been steadily building his club DJ profile since joining the station a few years ago.

The new line-up also sees the comeback kid Phat Joe, real name Majota Khambule, take over the Saturday breakfast show slot from Carol Ralefeta.

Ralefeta will now host Top 40, taking over from Minnie Dlamini and Adil More, who are moving to the mid-morning slot on Saturdays. - motaud@sowetan.co.za
