“It is believed the man pretended to sleep next to the road before attacking the women and dragging them into the nearby sugarcane field, where he raped them.”

A man accused of raping four women on separate occasions in a sugarcane field in Pongola was still being sought, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said police believed he raped four women in February this year.

“It is believed the man pretended to sleep next to the road before attacking the women and dragging them into the nearby sugarcane field, where he raped them.”

He also robbed the women of their money and cellphones.

Zwane said the man was slender and about 1.70 metres tall.

A warrant for his arrest had been issued.

The Ulundi Family Violence, Child and Sexual Offences Unit was investigating the rapes.
