AFRIFORUM will file an urgent court application in an attempt to prevent the Tshwane Metro Council from proceeding with 25 street name changes.

"AfriForum hopes to bring the matter before the North Gauteng High Court next Tuesday," AfriForum legal representative Willie Spies said yesterday.

He said the decision came after serious objections were made against the manner in which the public hearings were held by the council, adding that the city had also changed its policy on street names twice.

"This highlights the arbitrary and illogical conduct of the council regarding this important matter," Spies said.
