AN Eastern Cape man has been wounded in a shootout with police, a spokeswoman said yesterday.
Patrolling police saw the man acting suspiciously in Uitenhage at 7pm on Friday, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.
The man began shooting and the police returned fire, wounding him, Swart said. He was arrested and taken to hospital.
He will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court today.- Sapa
