Cocaine has been found under the wig of a woman trying to enter SA through O.R. Tambo International Airport
“Police received information of a possible drug smuggler on board a flight to South Africa from South America. Various flights from South America were monitored,” Captain Dennis Adriao said in a statement.
“When a flight from Brazil landed in the morning [on Wednesday] police identified the possible drug smuggler.”
A 36-year-old Angolan woman was taken to a room where her luggage was searched, but nothing was found.
Then, during a body search, three kilograms of cocaine were found in a plastic bag under her wig.
The drug has a street value of about R840,000.
She is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday on drug trafficking charges.
- Last week a man was caught at the airport with cocaine stuffed into a bra and panties he was wearing.
