HUMAN Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale is today expected to announce a task team to look into toilet scandals

HUMAN Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale is today expected to announce a task team to look into toilet scandals.

Sexwale sprang into action after reports from various provinces.

The latest was that of Matlelerekeng village in Moutse, Limpopo, which Sowetan exposed yesterday.

Spokesperson Mandulo Maphumulo said the scandals represented a renewed community interest in the politics of development .

Sowetan reported yesterday that about 100 unused toilets, worth R1,2 million and built in 1997 in Moutse, had been vandalised while government officials wrangled about who was responsible for the project.

The toilets formed part of a second phase RDP project in which 100 houses were to have been built. But that never happened and 14 years later people of Matlelerekeng village near Dennilton are still waiting.

Until 2006 the area was under Mpumalanga but was placed under Limpopo in that year.

The Limpopo government has refused to take responsibility for the project, arguing that Mpumalanga ought to finish what it started.
